It's free to use a travel agent and sometimes they can get you better deals than you could get on your own. Also great if going to a country you aren't familiar with....they can have everything all planned out if you wish and usually have extensive knowledge of the area.

OP, I would go to Playa del Carmen instead of Cancun if I were you. I just got back 3 weeks ago. We stayed 2 nights at the Marriott Casa Magna in Cancun which was really nice if you want a recommendation, but the 3 nights in Playa were better.
