In my opinion the root of most of the modern day "problems" with duck hunting is the stretch of 6 duck limit and 60 day seasons we are having. I could be wrong, but this is the longest stretch of this liberal of seasons and bag limits we have had in most of our lifetimes. The long season and large limits has opened up a huge commercial aspect to duck hunting that wasn't sustainable in the past. Follow the money...
Lots of dollar bills able to be made in duck hunting now: lots of extremely expensive shotguns, duck calls, decoys, apparel, facepaint, hunting shows, etc.
If you pay attention to this website you will see quite often people starting threads about getting into duck hunting while not coming from a duck hunting background. Nothing wrong with that, but chances are these people just getting started are not going to know any better when it comes to hunting etiquette unless they have an experienced person schooling them up, and I tend to believe that lots of people that have duck hunted their whole lives still don't know what they are doing..
Long story short money has "ruined" the sport
^This is the reason I don't duck hunt. As a non-Louisiana native, duck hunting is stupid expensive. A lot of my coworkers do it and all advise me to not start because it is a huge money pit. I have to believe that the pressure to bring home birds has a lot to do with people taking a chance at passing birds.
