Well the two nights we stayed there we just stayed at our hotel. First night we had traveled all day and got there in the evening and were leaving for Monteverde early the next morning. Coming back we got there in the afternoon but had an early flight home the next am so just hung out at the hotel bar/restaurant and relaxed and packed. So we didn't get to explore San Jose. But from what I saw from driving around.....I was ok with that. It would suck to stay in San Jose your whole trip and take day trips everywhere....,you'd be driving most of the time.

That was the best thing you could have done and you didn't miss much. The museums are small and kinda rinkydink. Driving in the city is a nightmare. I've been going there for 14 years and still get lost every time.
