First, this takes stretching Gordon off the table IMO. Honestly that may have never been on the table from the team's perspective, but turning Gordon into a Green was a very real possibility.

Second, $3.5 will become roughly $2 million under the new cap in 2 years, so it's not like this move will cripple us, but I think there is reason to doubt how much QPon gets you above a minimum guy, and if he doesn't get you much, why over pay for him? It's not like Salmons where he's an expiring $2 million that can be valuable as trade filler.
