I've been to the Santa fe to Taos area a couple of times. Lot to do depends what your looking for. Regardless you should have a good trip. Beautiful area.

We were in Red River over Christmas. It's a quaint little ski town...
Santa Fe is nice, Taos is okay.

You can also go to bars and eat at restaurants. There's a Ramada Inn too.

All those places are really cool. The native american scene is unique. I enjoy NM a lot actually, been a few times.

Go ski or golf in Taos or Angel Fire

Carlsbad is nice for the caverns, other than that wasn't much there for me.
Las Cruces doesn't have much to offer... You can go see the Trinity Site at White Sands though

Have you personally been to the Trinity Site? Worth a visit?

Check out the Town of Cloudcroft.
It's situated in the Lincoln National Forest at an altitude of 8,600 ft. It has its own climate, in which the high is usually 25 degrees cooler than the desert cities below like nearby Alamogordo. Therefore, it's an excellent summer get away. There's lots of outdoors things to do nearby like hiking, camping, and skiing at Ski Cloudcroft (if there has been enough snow accumulation). My favorite thing about this town is that when it rains, the entire pine forest smells like ... well, a pine tree air freshener. lol. I've never smelled cleaner air anywhere else in the world. There's also White Sands National Monument 45 mins drive west, which are not to be missed as well.
