Was it the AC/DC thing at the Centroplex that caused promoters to shy away from BR?
No, but that show started the dominos a falling.
BR was at that time a top 5 tour stop, the who's who of rock played here. There was a killer show every weekend. The Advocate decided to do a segment on the concert scene and chose the AC/DC show as the subject. The next morning, there were pictures of passed out teens, people smoking dope and well pictures of stuff that happens at concerts (at least stuff that happened back then). Our D.A. at that time was Ossie Brown. He was a Baptist Preacher of a man who also had a wild arse teenage son (Dana Brown) at that time. The next big show scheduled to play was Ozzie Osbourne, who was in the news for biting the head off of a bat. Ossie canceled the Ozzie show and really pissed off the promoters, pretty much ending BR as a major tour stop. I am still pissed that cost me a chance to see the great Randy Rhoads who died shortly after. Ozzie did get the last laugh by playing at the State Fair Grounds a year or so later, which was a great show in it's own right. Jake E Lee on lead, with Blue Oyster Cult, Vandenburg and Leroux on the ticket as well.

Do you remember the big show that Waylon and Willie used to do at the State Fair Grounds back in the day? I actually saw some pretty decent shows out there when I was in high school and college. Jerry Jeff Walker is the first one that comes to mind, but there were others. I want to say I saw REO Speedwagon out there as well.
