When LSU started looking for a new DC, some schools offered new contracts to their present DCs. Clemson, (Brent Venebles) Georgia (Jeremy Pruitt) etc.

I know this might come as a shock to many LSU fans, but established DCs aren't sitting around just hoping that LSU will call them.

In the age of the internet and social media, everybody has a source and everybody is a "journalist". I would venture to guess that 90% of the news that has come out is inaccurate. So who knows how many people LSU really "missed out" on? I suspect most of these guys never really intended on leaving their current positions, they just used the cache that comes with LSU to leverage their own standings.

In this day and age most big programs are willing to pay their coaches comparable money. And most coaches are willing to stay at their current position (as long as the money is right) than go through the process of having to start over at a new school.
