I've always wondered why the cables are usually closer to one side than the other. Seems like they should be in the middle. Anybody know?

If I had to guess there are existing utilities and/or storm sewer lines/catch basins in the center that would conflict with a deep footing/posts for the cable rail. Some states do have them in the center.

A solution for a concrete barrier would be a thinner spread footing that a concrete barrier would sit on.
