Been using a MAPP torch on my BGE for the last 7 years and it's working much better than those electric charcoal starters (which burn out quite easily and are more expensive).
The only issue with the torch is you have to be there for the whole 2 or so minutes and might get bombarded with sparks depending upon how much moisture your charcoal contains.

I light my charcoal chimney using the side burner on my propane grill or set in on the propane fish cooker. No mess and it's lit in a couple of minutes.
