want to get this thread going with a little Josh Smith shot chart comparison.ETA: this is a points per shots chart, as stated.
with Pistons
with Rockets
So JSmoove is being reeled in for the time being.
LeBron and his knee are going to take the first 2 weeks off in January.
The Bulls are the flavor of the week and have a lot of things going for them, Pau Gasol's reemergence, Jimmy Butler's rising, Rose showing signs of life and my favorite rookie Mirotic getting some ROY buzz.
The West is starting to beat each other a little as Golden State and Memphis have cooled a little.
Game of the Week of the Day
Washington at OKC
Toronto at Golden State
Saturday
Wizards @ Spurs
Atl @ Portland
Sunday
Dallas at Cleveland
Raptors at Suns
Bonus: Kings @ Pistons(who as I write this, as Zach Lowe pointed out are .500 with Jodie Meeks and undefeated without Josh Smith)
Monday-Best night for NBA this week
Houston @ Chicago
OKC @ GS (NBA TV)
Atl @ Clippers
Tuesday-not much action but
Suns @ Bucks should be entertaining, if not the best basketball ever
Pistons @ Spurs could be a fun game just to see how quickly Monroe and Drummond get into foul trouble.
Wednesday-ton of games but the only good one is
Memphis at Atl-which of course is not on national TV
Houston at Cleveland, naturally suffers without LeBron
Also, now in January we officially begin the "Melo Shuts it Down" Watch.
Give me the 21st-when they the go to Philly. Of course I could be wrong since the All-Star game is in NYC he might really want to play that.

I think Smith wants to win. So far, he's playing good D and looks like he could be a nice piece if he keeps it up. Personally I think D-Mo is a better offensive player, which is why he works well with the 2nd unit. Corey Brewer has been a beast though. He fits in perfectly.

according to the chart, he hasn't taken any 3's with Houston? You should fact check a little better.

Yeah... I don't get the chart. He's taken a couple 3's and some mid-range jumpers while on the Rockets.

As the chart reads and as my OP states on the chart itself, this is point per shot shot chart, so maybe you should read a little better.

But what does that have to do with missing blips? What am I missing?

FAIL
His stats are worse across the board with Houston than with Detroit. He is shooting 1.5 3s per game with Houston, compared to 1.3 with Detroit.

Nothing. My guess is that since it is a "points per shot" graphic, it indicates he hasn't actually made a shot outside of the paint in a Rockets uniform...it isn't because he is being "reigned in" and isn't taking them.
I looked at the individual shot charts for all four games and it looks like he hasn't made one yet...edit: besides the three on 12/31 and a couple vs. Memphis that could have been outside of the paint.

I specifically remember him hitting a 3 and I remember him hitting a fadeaway mid-range jumper.
So I know for a fact he's made some.

The article these PPS charts came from was posted on 12/30...that would be the reason the made three isn't on there.

Ok but I still remember him hitting a fadeaway in his first game...

I edited...ESPN has one as a 12 footer vs. Memphis

Hawks being sold?
@CVivlamoreAJC: BREAKING: According to league source, agreements in place for 100 percent of Hawks to be sold. Story to come. #ATLHawks

Josh Smith shooting threes is a terrible decision, but Josh Smith taking long 2s is a worse decision. Josh Smith has only taken 5 long 2s in 4 games. He took 6 long 2s in his last game in Detroit.

Although the data is 1 game off, the lack of blue in the 17-22ft area is the most telling because of the decrease in the amount of shots he is taking there, so far.

True.
I don't mind the guy attempting a 3 in the flow of the game, but those long 2s suck.

How long before they screw up what the Hawks are doing right now? How long before Danny Ferry is told to go on safari?

Heading out to Rockets/ Bulls on Monday. Going to be a good one

Yeah there has to be some kind of awareness that not only is it a bad shot, but if youre bad it, make decision B or C than taking that shot.
If Smith continues to pass on those shots, then the Rockets have some serious luck.
On paper a rotation of-
Howard
Harden
Beverly
Smith
Ariza
Brewer
Monte
Jones
Terry or Shved
is scary. I wouldn't want to see them come playoff time.

Tery has been really good. His energy more than anything else.
Still have Canaan and Dorsey in that rotation. Dorsey sucks offensively but has done a good job of crashing the glass.
