Ahhh yes it could be. I've actually drank at that bar in college(forget what hotel was called in 90s).

was this on the TJ Rib's side, maybe where the Renaissance is today? Or The side around where Outback is today?

Maybe. I'm pretty sure there used to be a hotel behind the Waffle House on College Dr. too. think it was a Howard Johnson's when I was a kid in the '70s, but for some reason I thought it changed to a Travelodge at one point.
