Stringer needed Avon though, he wasnt hard enough. And when he tried to be hard (offing Omar on church day) he fricked things up.

the co-op would have sorted all that out
even marlow. he would have never had the opportunity to do what he did in season 4-5 if avon hadn't fricked shite up

What Avon said to Stringer about being a man without a country, was 100% accurate. Not hard enough for the drug game. Not smart enough for the "bidness man" game.
Actually...I think Stringer was smart enough to eventually be a successful entrepreneur outside the drug game, but the Stringer that we saw didn't yet have the skills or the savvy to do so. Had he lived 5 more years, I think he would have been running shite.
But none of that is really a "mistake" made by Stringer. His only real mistake was the Brother Mouzzone thing. That was obviously a terrible move.
