Stringer Bell: Mistakes were made. (The Wire)

Stringer is a fan favorite character because of his ambition and pragmatism but I'd like to examine where he chose...poorly.
1. Not getting Avon out of the way. Avon himself told Stringer he wasn't hard enough for the game right before Stringer told Avon he whacked Deangelo, perhaps Avon was right. (another mistake, telling Avon about Dee).
2. Attempting to use Omar to get Brother Mozuen out of the way... I'm sure it seemed brilliant to Stringer at the time but when you play with fire like those two, you gonna get torched.
3. Being too ambitious in the business world without proper education and networking. Clay Davis would have bled Stringer dry if given the opportunity. If only Stringer would have hedged his bets with the development connections and not relied on the "goose" of Clay Davis.
I'm sure there's several other mistakes... Feel free to add...

Stringer's problem was that he was too dumb for the game he was trying to play. I always felt awkward when he regurgitated his community college nonsense trying to sound smart.

both of these are Avon problems that Stringer tried to fix, though

he messed up here, but in the big picture, it wasn't a big failure. $250k is nothing to his empire

He was a great number 2, but when Avon got locked up he got in way over his head. Tried changing things way too dramatically. His biggest error though, by far, was going after Brother Mouzone who was on another level intellectually.

I think this was his only real mistake. Stringer's biggest weakness IMO was he was not always being as direct as he needed to be. He should have just explained what was happening with the towers to Avon and BM. Avon would have been extremely pissed but he would have had to deal with it because he was in prison.

He was trying too damn hard to be a businessman and bring peace with the New Day co-op. Avon was just a gangsta (i suppose) and thats how you win out in the ruthless world of the drug trade. You get corners, you wipe out the competition, and you win. You don't share profits and work together, cause someone is always gonna want more. It's kinda a prisoners dilemma.

4. Being too uppity.

Taking a freshmen level economics class and thinking he knew it all. His speeches about 40% days, how supply and deman works, and other basic principles always made me laugh.
And as far as him losing the 250k...I believe it was cheese that said "we sellin dope and coke in Baltmore ni**a! Any of yall ain't got that kind of money you oughta be ashamed of yourselves"
