they use to be the only game on in town and everyone wanted to play there
plus that's when Detroit, Cleveland and Chicago were all rocking and growing

I've got a handful of friends that went to Notre Dame. There was no way they were staying up there after school. That was 15 years ago. South Bend may have been nice at one time, but now it's gotta be a hell hole for some of the reasons you mentioned.
I remember thinking I wanted to go there when I was in 8th grade. Their PR game was on point in the 90's. NBC was a big part of that. But now, not so much.
