I haven't had a bonsai, but have always really liked them...I am jealous..
I don't know the answer to your question, but I hear they are pretty picky about growing conditions, so I would probably do some reading about the particular variety that you have...

Check out Vaughn Banting, he and his family had a nursery in the NOLA area. He was married to a friend of mine. Look him up if you get a chance.

Don't try to be friends with some teenage a-hole from Jersey...nothing good will happen to your Bonsai.

Been wanting one for quite awhile but just never got to it. I have many different cycads and palms so this was just another thing to frick around with.

Drop acid and trim your bonsai. You'll be amazed at the results.

Is this some kind of small dog with long hair?

He needs outside light.
Water once a day in the hot months, ok for longer in the colder months.
Soil composition is important.

Because the roots are confined to such a small container, water often. Like daily. Don't fertilize much because you want very slow growth. The point of bonsai is to create a realistic-looking tree in miniature. I never tried to grow one under artificial lights so don't know about that one.

Do yourself and the tree a favor and find out as much as you can about it. There's nothing magical about it, it truly is just a tree in smaller form. However, because the soil usually drains fast it does need more frequent watering but can also suffer from root rot if you water it too often when it's more humid out (such as summertime). It may or may not need direct sunlight, again each tree has specific needs, just like certain plants in a garden do. I've been raising and training these trees for 10 years now and they can be cool to work with, but sometimes also a pain in the arse. Your local bonsai group can help a lot as one poster noted.

I think it was like, never expose to sunlight, never get wet and never ever feed after midnight.
