Great thread... I've heard this story numerous times but it never gets old. I actually just read mention of it again while reading Killing Patton.

Thanks. I wish I knew more about what his experience was in WWII. Sadly he died a few years before I was born so all I know for sure about him is he served as a tanker in the 4th Armored Div from a little after Normandy until the end of the war.

Been listening to it on my drives to work. The information is great. I always figured that the RAF plane that tried shooting down Patton's plane was a russian screw job.
