the IV fluid is actually pretty cheap, good luck putting one into yourself though. I can do it to myself with the new safety catheters but it took alot of practice to build up to sticking myself like that.

This. The saline itself is relatively cheap. The catheter and the tubing are also pretty cheap. The cost of the nurse "constantly monitoring" fluids being continuously run into your veins, along with the stretcher in the ER you are occupying are the bitch.
