Sure, I have no argument with your assertion. The hypersensitive exist on both sides of the aisle but, and perhaps its only a perception on my part, the militancy seems to originate from the atheist side.

I have encountered people trying to share their beliefs with me. I tell them I'm not interested and they walk away. Never encountered a militant religious person yet.
I try to be as polite as possible and they have always responded in kind.
People can be annoying. The religious and the atheists both have their share of annoying people. Just smile when you encounter them.
