Last time I checked, I think the going rate for a trophy axis was $2500-3000. Or you can pay that for a lease and get 'em during whitetail season. My oldest son took one in full velvet, I mean not a scrap disturbed. It was 30" tall, if it had been a little wider, it would have been an even more amazing trophy. Still an unbelieveable mount-all the velvet preserved.

I've had to stop and let a hundred of the damn things cross the road just outside of Junction before.
