thoughts on the city? in the middle of booking honeymoon and debating Tulum vs Playa Del Carmen
we are doing underwater wedding pics in Tulum and wouldn't mind staying there the entire time but curious if anyone has feedback on the city

It's really pretty out there. But I think it's more secluded(not much to do outside the resorts). If you stay in Playa there is 5th Avenue which has a bunch of restaurants/bars/shops you can walk to. Also...the ferry to Cozumel is right there as well.

Huh. Alright.
Not dogging it, I'm overwhelmed by the effort.

Can't wait to see those underwater pics, I bet they will look amazing!
Friend of mine is actually on her honeymoon right now in Playa....they are staying at the Casitas Royale. From her fb posts she seems to really like it there.

Just got back from there. It's nice but there are nicer
If u stay there get the VIP thing. Drinks are all u can drink but
They are wAtered down unless u make ur own at the VIP
Lounge. Beaches r okay but not groomed well
Sometimes there is a lot of seaweed. Rooms r nice and the staff
Tries to please. One of our party kept finding things wrong with her room
And they moved her several times at no cost
Food is plentiful and okay but not great. As always when going south
Bring money for tipping. Watch your cab drivers
And watch the exchange rate. We ate at a restaurant in tulum
That was really good and fun I'll try to get the name
We had a large party that included kids which is why we
Picked Dreams Tulum.

We went to Dreams in Tulum and it was awesome. It's like an enormous compound in the middle of nowhere along the Mayan coast. Dreams was great because it's family-friendly while at the same time being a great spot for a lot of young couples and newlyweds. We also went off-compound a few times and did a four-wheeler ride that went to a remote lagoon and zip-lining.
It was a ton of fun, but it might not be what you're looking for if you're wanting some city nightlife.

If you are interested in diving take the ferry over to cozumel one day and set up a dive trip with this guy scuba pablo I prefer to stay in Cozumel when I go, rent a jeep, dive, and run around the island. Rasta Bar is a cool place to hang out, try the peanut butter tequila.
Pablo can also get you hook up around town, he has friends with houses to rent and our last trip he took us to the lobster supplier for the island and we picked out 5 tails for $10 each. We went to a local cantina and gave the cook $10 to cook them up for us while we drank cerveza and ate ceviche. Just tip him well and he will take care of you.

Yes. Been quite a few times. Tulum beach is awesome. The hotels along Tulum beach are small and generally considered eco friendly. You can find places that are very rustic almost the degree of Survivor to expensive boutique semi rustic places with A.C. If you like to get away from all the rigors of you regular life, it is perfect. If you prefer cruise ships and all you can eat all inclusives, it may not be for you. It has been about 5 years, but for the most comforts yet still a rustic feel, you may want to look at Anna y Jose...pricey but a very nice boutique Mexican hotel with an amazing beach front. We have also stayed at Mezanine and liked it very much...although no A.C. there

Went to Tulum in May 2013, was very skeptical about the whole Mexico thing, would definitely recommend. Wife and I not big on the huge resort scene and the usual crowd flocking from Europe, stayed at El Pez on Turtle Cove (LINK /), ate in town with the locals, did the cave snorkeling, Sian Ka'an (LINK /), etc. If you're not for the smaller hotels, there's a ton of absoutely massive resorts between Cancun and Tulum.
It wasn't long after we'd gotten back that I found photos on Costa del Mar's site shot from Sian Ka'an. check it out
