Well, the repub leadership DID trust Dingy Harry, or at least hope he'd do what he said. Ted Cruz did something almost unforgivable as a US Senator. He forced a hard vote on a ticklish issue that put many a repub senator between a rock and a hard place, and it could have been easily swept under the rug while swilling eggnog. Man, that's just low down dirty.

I think this is it. No one wanted to take a stand on the issue(s). It's unseemly to make a Senator vote on something other than his/her reelection or salary.
