I had a lengthy discussion about les with a group of friends of mine that all have different rooting interests. I feel like all too often this board is an echo chamber with 2 polarizing sides so every thread becomes nothing but personal snipes and no one is talking about football by page 3. heres some excerpts:
What would make things interesting is Miles to Michigan.
a declining Miles (who won't have the luxury of recruiting louisiana in his bathrobe) isn't nearly as interesting as Harbaugh joining a division of coaches with Urbz, Dantonio and Franklin.
Miles > Dantonio and Franklin. not even close
Out of Miles, Dantonio and Franklin, I'd take Miles.
I might be inclined to take Dantonio.
Agreed.
I'd take Dantonio over Miles all day everyday.
I'd put Miles in the second tier of active cfb coaches. Meyer and Saban are in the first tier.
Miles is Tier 1, IMHO, no doubt.
Miles may be a better recruiter(or maybe he just coaches on a amazingly talent rich state with no instate competition) than Dantonio, but there is no way you can convince me he is a better football coach.
It's difficult to not field a great team year in and year out at LSU. The talent pool there is heavy and the vast majority of them are very loyal and stay in state. He's let some get away, but with the amount of great talent in that state and the east coast of Texas every year, you'd have to try to not be successful there.
Stovall, Arnsparger, Archer, Curly Hallman and Dinardo would beg to differ.
until Saban got there, no one would have ever said that about LSU
You can't really argue with Lesticle's results. I think if you gave me his resume and took his name off the top of it, I'd choose the resume over Dantonio. Despite his accomplishments, I just don't think Les Miles is an intelligent person. I just don't understand how he has won like he has. I don't trust it. Deep down in my plums I feel like he's a fraud.
I give Miles a lot of credit for keeping going what Saban started there, but I think in this day and age, you'd have to be a terrible coach and recruiter to not have success at LSU. He just seems to win in spite of himself. That's not the kind of coach I want.
take that as you will, just thought I'd share real, actual opinions of people not in any way associated with LSU.
