re: I know I'm young...but how did college social stuff work before cell phones?

I was in college from '89-'94.two of my friends had car phones near the end. After that i had some friends that were cops and they were the first to have cell phones. I don't remember it being especially hard to find anyone. If we made plans to go to an event where people were traveling separately you just named the time and a landmark to meet at. It usually worked out fine. The only time I could remember that having a cell around that time would have been nice was in '96 when my car broke down on rural stretch of highway about 40 miles from my destination at like 11pm. I walked probably 5 miles before someone stopped and picked me up.
