.243 is a good round. I borrowed one for a while when I was getting the trigger on my 30-06 worked on. I never had a problem even with pigs. My wife uses a 25-06 exclusively. It is all about shot placement. Hit them in the heart (behind the shoulder), or neck/head shots.
