Why the consensus view that I've received from opposing fans not in the SEC and in the SEC is that Les is a good coach and doing well at LSU, but they don't see him as a coach to take mediocre to championship. It's not that hard to understand.
He did well starting a rebuild at OSU, but realistically I doubt he takes them to a title there. He's not suited to do both rebuild to championship and maintain at a championship level.
He can bring you up if your low, but it will take someone else to finish the job IMO.

One conference title in his last 7 years says a lot given what Les has had available to him in that time including the highest paid staff in the country.
Last 4 years (including this year):
Alabama 2 (most likely)
Auburn 1
LSU 1
Last 8 years:
Alabama 3
Auburn 2
LSU 2
Florida 1
It shows that he coaches in the toughest conference in the country against some of the best coaches in the country.

Not at all. I said he hasn't proven he can BUILD a championship level program. That's not a knock on him but that is also a reason he's not some homerun hire.
Saban, Meyer, Fisher, Tressel, Rodriguez are the names of guys that rebuilt fledgling programs into title contenders. Miles has yet to prove that as his only great success has been at LSU which was already a championship caliber program when he took it over.
Could he do it? Possibly, but it is an unknown right now.
