It won't get down to a 5th or 6th choice unless all 5 or 6 are completely unrealistic. And then, there's no way Miles would accept. His ego wouldn't allow it.

See, I disagree. In fact, I think it would be his ego PLUS love of Michigan that’d compel him to take a hard look at the offer if made under those circumstances.

“Ego” – One thing that strikes me about CLM is his self-confidence regardless of what’s going on around him. Zero fricks given about those who think he’s stupid, not a good Xs and Os guy, and so forth. He’s quite confident in his own abilities, which is why the next piece (as he might say) makes sense.

“Love of Michigan” – If this job has fallen that far in the eyes of the coaching community so as to have 5-6 people pass, and UM comes to him hat in hand (no pun intended), then he may look at it as, “I know I can do the job. Might have taken jackwads like Lloyd Carr a long time to come around, but I can do the job of getting this program back where it belongs. Now that the offer is here, I’ll take it so as to end my coaching career with no regrets.”

Hell, it wouldn’t shock me if he's telling Jim Hackett to swing for the fences, go try and get a dynamic younger coach who can right the ship and stay there for 10 or more years…but, if that fails, then come back to me and let's talk.
