as an adult, no way I would take a deer that I had only shot in the leg and someone else killed. However, if it was a kid that had shot it in the leg, no way I would give up seeing the look on his face at killing that deer for a few extra pounds of deer meat. Give the kid the deer. For those of you who say that wouldn't teach the kid a lesson, he is 11 and is learning to hunt. You are a bunch of heartless SOBs if you don't feel bad for him. Do you think this makes him more or less likely to hunt again?

In Alabama,

If I wound a deer or other animal can I cross a property line to retrieve it?

No, you may not cross a property line to retrieve wounded or dead animals without the permission of the landowner. All land is considered posted for the purposes of hunting.

Now if it was the people on the left side of my place, they better call first and then I'll help them get it and let the boy take it all....

But if it's the neighbors on the right, first I'd be surprised that they shot it in the daytime, second I'd be surprised they didn't run over it with one of their 4 wheelers. I'd let it rot before they touched a hair on it.
