I've got a situation similar to this. Have a distant cousin that is in a club that borders some of my property. A few years ago the timber company cleared it and he built a huge box stand about 50 feet from the border. He then commenced to shoot a box of shells a year at deer. He is probably in his 60s and has never killed a deer before. He says he gets nervous when he tries to shoot them. Luckily it has grown up now so that he can only hunt about a 100 yard stretch that he has lanes cut on.
A few years ago his popped a couple of shots off at a "big deer" that then ran on to my property. He called and we helped him look. Actually followed the trail of the deer running into the woods. No blood anywhere and he said the deer never stopped bounding across the clearing (i.e. never gave the impression of being hit).
