Bowl Projections

Before all of the Board Police start in, I looked back and did not see any true bowl projection threads after the TAMU win.
With that being said, where is Chad with his bowl projection break downs. Those things were so detailed and often time correct.

LSU isn't going to the Indy Bowl. They come after the 6 primary bowls in the pecking order, and then after the Birmingham Bowl. They only get an SEC team if there are enough to go around. There will be this year, but I can absolutely guarantee that Houston or Birmingham will take LSU before the Indy gets a shot. And that's assuming that the Gator, Liberty, and Music City all pass as well. That won't happen.
If Arkansas had won today, they would have a great shot at the Liberty. However, with their loss, UT is better bet there. However, because they are on the rise, Arkansas probably ranks above A&M in the eyes of the SEC and the bowls, despite the head to head and poorer record. That disappointing finish likely puts them in one of the lower bowls. Maybe Indy.
It all hinges on how many the SEC gets into the playoff and/or premiere bowls. The other wild card is the fact that most of the bigger bowls are in the east now, and most of the bowl teams are in the west. Several teams with disappointing to average seasons (LSU, A&M, Ole Miss, Auburn) will have to travel a fair distance for their bowls. That is the real wild card in this. How will the SEC account for that, since they now make all of the assignments? There will likely be some unhappy marriages this year.

FWIW, the Liberty is certainly a possibility, but it isn't as likely. The way the process works now, the teams and the bowls give the SEC their ranked choices other than the Citrus, who gets first choice. After that, the SEC makes the matches depending on those rankings.
I live in the Memphis area, and Steve Erhart, the head of the Liberty Bowl committee was on the radio this week. He made it clear that UT and Arkansas were the primary teams they are interested in. I can tell you that both schools will rate the Liberty high on their lists as well because of the ease of travel for their fan bases.
I am also certain that most LSU fans will NOT prefer this bowl, even if it is a solid matchup. I know this from past bowl projection discussions. Memphis is my home and I still have a soft spot for it, but it isn't the greatest destination city. Overlooking the crime and inner city blight, it has plenty to do, but it is cold here in the winter and the game is outdoors. I feel pretty certain that the athletic dept will have Texas and one of the Florida bowls higher on their list than the Liberty.
So, if the Liberty has 2 or 3 schools (Ole Miss may rank ahead of LSU as well) ahead of LSU, and LSU ranks at least 2 bowls ahead of the Liberty, it seems an unlikely match unless other priorities force it.
This is just my opinion. I would LOVE for LSU to end up here, whether it was against WVU or OU. My wife and I would get tix.

I think this is pretty accurate except I believe the Tax Slayer (Gator) would take LSU over Florida. Sure the Gators are closer and would sell more tickets but LSU would be the one remaining unselected SEC team that is ranked. Florida also will have a interim coach so their fan base will likely be deflated (assuming they lose to FSU) and the bowl execs know this. I don't think Ole Miss will be ranked if they lose to Ms State as that will be 4 out of their last 5 games they will have lost. LSU is still a national program and hasn't played in Jacksonville since the 1987 season. UT, SC, Ark and A&M are all unranked and probably still will be after the rest of the games are played tomorrow.
I'm not so sure Ole Miss will go to the Music City bowl if they lose to State. They went there last season. It wouldn't surprise me if the Liberty and Music City work a deal that sends the Rebs to Memphis and Tenn to Nashville.

Nebraska won't be in the Gator (Tax Slayer) for the 3rd year in a row. If LSU playplays in the Gator bowl, it will be against Minnesota.

from a good source before the game said with a win we should go to the tax slayer and with a loss would be the texas or music city bowl. Som im going with the Tax Slaer/Gator

That just proved that they haven't done any research on the way SEC bowls are now assigned. LSU to Indy is a very remote possibility.
