I'm thinking about getting my kid one. I don't know much about them except they seem to work like a c & c machine.

Would it be safe for a 10 yr old?

I can't speak for all 10 year olds, but if I had one I'd be comfortable letting my 9 year old use it. All the cutting goes on inside the machine. You don't have to change the blade that often, and as long as she's careful with it, it should be fine.
