I think 35 Whelan is the superior caliber for primitive. I use a 444 Marlin because 35 Whelan isn't (or wasn't at the time) legal for primitive in Louisiana.

In talking to a buddy today, he told me the 35 Whelen was the way to go. He has a Handi rifle in 45-70 and said it kicks like a mule!

Same.

I timed the market and sold my .444 about 2 weeks before primitive opened this year for damn near the price of a new one. That said, it had only been shot about 30 times and I gave the guy the last 10 or so rounds I had. It was a fair deal...

I just carried a single shot shotgun this year, but I will be getting a 35 before next year.
