I lived on Gardere in a 4 plex for a year, then spent a coupe years in another 4 plex on Coy, just a couple blocks off Gardere. This was in late 80s. Shopped at the Piggly Wiggly all the time. Made many trips to the Fast Trak burger joint.

There were lots of students in the area, with a few poor folks mixed in. I never experienced any crime problems or heard about any. That said, I knew not all my neighbors were Angels, so I always kept a pistol on the coffee table or by my bed.

Used to visit a little bar on Gardere near a convenience store. Can't recall the name.

It was decent area for a poorer/cheaper student. There were better apt areas in BR, but they cost a bit more.

One day people will say that black people once lived in Garden, but they killed each other until there was none left.
