I think I've come to realize that it's more fun just to tailgate, eat and drink, and attend games as a fan and DON'T EXPECT TOO MUCH.
If you do, you will get burnt. There are just too many variables and unforseen events that can happen that the fan has no control over:
Injuries, weather, horrible calls and non-calls, Alabama refs, 49'ers refs, freak plays, trick plays, turnovers, tipped balls, dropped passes, blown coverages, bad clock management, missed opportunities - coulda woulda shoulda games, not putting a team away, etc.
I still love football, and will watch and go to games forever, but I will go with tempered expectations. It's better for my blood pressure, and my TV screen, and my windows....
One thing I'm thankful for, both my teams have won championships within the last 8 years.
