A number of groups fall into this category - Zeppelin (just a little, remember how early they were and how heavy the first couple of albums were), Def Leppard (don't laugh, High N' Dry is right at the line - particularly for its day - as heavy as any AC/DC album), Lamb of God on this list - really borderline to call them metal - on a list with Slayer, Morbid Angel, etc.
