I said once the dashed lanes end. Past the merge point. Really there is just one spot where it's bad, and by shifting to the right you get cars to actually merge into open spots, rather than line up on the shoulder and try to get in.
As soon as the dashed stripes end, I center myself in the lane, rather than keep right. Maybe that explains it better. I need a diagram.
No I don't ride over two lanes. But I try to keep people from using the shoulder.
