obtaining a new title for a vehicle registered out of state question

Ok here's a very unique situation that I need advice on but will probably need to contact the DMV tomorrow. I currently live in Baton Rouge and want to sell my old vehicle that I bought in Florida. The vehicle is registered and insured in my name in Florida. The title was LOST during my move from Florida 2 years ago. I have a buyer here in Baton Rouge however I do not have the tittle. What would I/the buyer have to do in order to complete this transaction? Any and all advice would be gratefully appreciated....

Did you get the vehicle registered in La?
I've only delt with registering vehicles in Fla and that's a pain in the arse.

No, I never registered it in LA because I didn't have the title, so I just renewed the plates in FLA when I went to visit family there haha

I would think that you will need to get a duplicate florida title and then sell it...

Probably need to go back to Florida for a Notary and pick up a copy of the registration.
Come to Louisiana for the Title and drop off the Florida resignation. Then go back to Florida and drop off the Louisiana title and then back to Baton Rouge for the registration and Notary.
By this time it will be irretrievably screwed up that you can get pretty much whatever you need at that point.

I'd rather set the truck on fire with me handcuffed to the steering wheel

I am afraid to try that link. Does it link to porn?

For you, yes.
For OP, it links to Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles

That's cool. How did you make it switch like that?

thanks but I have a feeling Im going to be sitting on hold with a copious amount of multi-state transportation department officials tomorrow receiving nothing but bad news and inconvenient tasks to complete. The guy is driving from Hammond to pick it up Monday so Im hoping I can accomplish all this BS tomorrow....

Get a duplicate title from the state of Florida. Pretty simple to do, provided you have the right documentation. You may have to go to Florida to get it though, don't know if you can do that by mail.
