Hurt it a month ago and has been hurting like hell. Today I moved it a ccertain way and felt it pop back into place.

I can tell you that this can happen as I have had this happen to me. In Aug 13, we were moving and I tried to move a tv over just a few inches without help. I pulled up on the TV to move it over and heard a pop.

For the next week and a half I had a difficult time moving my arm without excruciating pain. It gradually got tolerable over the next few weeks.

One day while at work a wasp flew into my office and I tried to swat it with a scrub jacket. I heard the same pop and my pain went away.

It's either aliens or my shoulder popped back in its socket.

Can't you develop gangrene if you leave something out of socket / dislocated for an extended period of time?

Sure. It might not be severely dislocated like most people would think, but it probably just wasn't quite sitting right in the joint and subluxed.

Yeah, I think it could.

Just be careful now. The ligaments/tendons/etc. tend to stretch and no longer hold it as tight. Makes dislocation much easier in the future.

To be out of socket would be a dislocation. This is quite painful and you would not be able to lift your arm. You couldn't last a day. Sounds as if you sprained or tore a ligment/tendon.
