We called a truce years ago with my family. No gifts at all for anyone. We give my niece some cash. Get together to visit and eat. I love it.

Wife's side is like the dude described above. They are like children and will not hear of ending the gift crap. I'd much rather they keep their money than buy us junk we don't need or want.

The United Nations needs to enact a global No Gifts Registry for adults. You go online and sign up. You are totally out of the giving or receiving gifts racket for birthday, weddings, etc. If you want something, buy it yourself.
