Do you think Miles knows that he has Coaches Challenges?

No way any of those plays should not have been reviewed

He said in his post game speech that his team upstairs told him that was undoubtedly a catch. I think it was as well, but there is no harm in challenging it at that point. I personally think he's making that up, but whatever.

Not only talking about that final drive, speaking of the bad spot on third down and the Phantom touchback

He didn't address those specifically, but I'm sure he would come up with the same excuse. Dude is a clown for not challenging any of those three calls.

Except that it stops the clock for a team that's on the fringe of field goal range and driving instead of putting the pressure on them to hurry up and go without huddling, which not infrequently results in bad plays and penalties because the offense doesn't line up correctly.

They spiked the ball to kill the clock anyway

It was a 1st down. The clock was stopped anyway.

GTFO with that. So you don't challenge a call bc you're hoping the other team runs a bad play?

The clock starts once the chains are reset. They traded a down for it to stay stopped. Les traded a timeout for a down because upstairs said "Yeah, he caught it. Don't waste the challenge."

See above. You don't call timeout because they likely give up the down or run a play they're not exactly prepared for.
ETA: If it had been ruled a catch after challenge, would you be upset that Bama had it 1st and 10 instead of 2nd and 10 with another second ticked off?

Bottom line is that this just goes to prove Miles has trouble with game play decisions, ie., clock management, challenges, play calling, etc.....

How many downs Bama had at that point was irrelevant. It was about yardage and clock. Not downs.

Not really. It was a good call. He took the time to think it over. He got insight from his crew watching upstairs that said, "No. Don't do it. It was absolutely a catch." He wanted to. Doing so would give them time and allow them to plan and was guaranteed to not have been overturned, per what he was given.
If anything, the bottom line is that his personal play reviewers were awfully sure and convinced him not to throw the flag.

The spike cost Bama 0:01.

This is ridiculous. How do you challenge a touchback on a punt with no goal line camera? I was at the game and they didn't show a goal line replay. Was there a goal line view? If not the STFU. "Play calls as stands." Then Miles loses a time out and you guys are bitching.
Same thing with the third down spot. How many of those get overturned?

One second + one down. A timeout puts them on the sideline with 30 seconds to call a series of plays with little pressure. Running 21yds (?) to get on the ball and then to simply huddle up is very different than taking a timeout and having the time to plan.

It wasn't straight down the goal line (slight angle), but there was one view that showed semi-convincingly that the ball had not broken the plane (again, one view and angled). The confusing thing to the announcer on TV was that the ref ~5 yards from the action didn't make the call. The one ~15-18 yards away (on the sideline) made the touchback call.

A timeout puts them on the sideline with 30 seconds

I'm talking about the amount of time they would have on the sideline with a timeout. It would be close to 30 seconds.
ETA: Should have written "for" 30 seconds.

This. How many down Bama had was completely irrelevant.

Let me get this right. So you're advocating not challenging the play in order that Bama call in a play within the normal play clock time allotted?

No. I'm advocating that Miles was told that the ball was caught and the challenge was a waste of time. People said it should have been challenged anyway. At which point, I say that giving them a free time out in that situation on a play that wasn't going to be overturned is stupid. They're scrambling and excited. Don't let them calm down or give them a second to relax and think more clearly.
