Troubleshooting update - I was able to access the desktop via TeamViewer and it worked fine.
Put it into sleep mode again overnight and didn't have the same issue upon coming out of it this morning.
So, maybe it was just a one time thing.
Other than that, it's been running very well on the 2010 mini.

Ram installed. Yosemite running like a champ. Thanks for the ram upgrade suggestion.
