I'm trying to maybe find a website that I can just download a pdf version of a book or something along those lines. I have been trying to download the kindle app on my phone but its not working.

can honestly say I have never torrented anything in my life. I might have to look into it though.

I'm not sure why the Kindle app isn't working, it's always worked fine on my Motorola phones.
If you do get it working, there are lots of free books for Kindle and a ton of less than $5 books. My interests are mostly spiritual and historical topics, but I'm sure there's something that'll fit your interests also.
I also use the Aldiko app, also free and cheap books for whatever interests you may have. It'll read both Epub and PDF formats, something I don't think Kindle will do.
My go-to app 95% of the time is Kindle though.

I'm offshore and don't have a wireless connection to download the app directly to my phone and for some reason itunes is refusing to download it also.

If you get an ebr library card, they have an app called overdrive that has both audiobooks and kindle books... It's awesome. They have tons of titles and a lot of new books as well. Haven't bought a book in years!

Also they have pdf/ePub books and you can read some in your browser! Plus it's free!

The University of Chicago gives away a monthly e-book for readers from their collections; the topic and subject matter vary widely, from politics, to history, to medical science-- over the past 2 years, I've gotten everything from the biology of fruit seeds to modern poetry, to this month's selection on Natural History and Thomas Jefferson.

Overdrive app with library card is the way to go. It also syncs from tablet to phone. I love it. I haven't bought a book in 2 years. You can even request ebooks if the library doesn't have what your looking for.
