With Hulu and Netflix, will I basically just be missing out on sporting events, or is there a lot of television programming that doesn't make it on Hulu.

CBS has always been a bit of a holdout and they are starting a new streaming service, so I'm not sure if you can get their shows through Hulu, but between Hulu and NetFlix the bulk of what you'll be missing is live/local news and sports. Get a digital antenna and you can pick up the local stuff and will only be missing the ESPN/TNT sports.

One thing to make note of with Hulu is they typically only go about 4-6 weeks back, so if you want to pick up something later in the season you can't. You might consider some software like PlayOn/PlayLater which will let you DVR Hulu. LINK /

If you go this route, there are several free-standing DVR boxes you can use that will both download a guide to let you know what's on and when as well as having some amount of freedom to not watch live stuff. You lose ESPN, FX, TNT, USA, Disney. You will be able to keep HBO via HBO Go though, if you desire.
