re: Russell Wilson isn't "Black Enough," Seahawks Players Allegedly Say

there's no miscommunication when you say "someone isn't black enough" Clearly a person who says that is viewing things along the lines of race. At best he's trying to say by being phony he's not black enough because black people are genuine. (implying that it is a trait specific to them)
It's just all stupid, I think black people in general would be shocked how little white, Asian, Hispanic and other people identify as a part of a race or along the lines of "skin color"

You're crazy. Detroit re-elected race-baiting Kwame Kilpatrick. Holder was AG of the nation. Sharpton has a shown on MSNBC. And none of them are (deservingly) ridiculed by the media the way a white racist is.

no I understood what you were doing, and you were sooo far off. I have fricking aspergers and that is clear to me...no one was reasoning anything...when the motive for killing your family is so you can collect 3k to pay a bookie or loanshark, you're a different type of murderer than the most common murderers...psychopathy, evil...it fascinates people because it's so hard to comprehend.
People can comprehend someone in a bad situation with no supervision or guidance killing someone for their wallet or car, as much as it still pisses them off. They can understand someone killing their wife when they catch her cheating, they can even understand killing over "turf".
NO ONE in that thread was trying to reason out his transgression. More than any other instance he wasn't being given any slack...he's fricking evil

If a lot of those players really hold Percy Harvin in higher regard than Russell Wilson, that speaks volumes to me about what the real problem is.
Lately, it seems like the more you learn about about the NFL, the worse it looks.

Russell Wilson could be a mega a-hole for all I know, but that wasn't the complaint levied.

And this is really it.
What do we really know about the players? Just look at what has happened to Adrian Peterson's image.
Do you really know?

But let's look at a this "black" persona that we are discussing...
For a majority of the country, what we perceive to be "black" is what we see on TV. Most people's interactions with black people, if they don't live amongst them or work amongst them, is through mass media. The depiction of the black body throughout of popular culture has been mainly hypersexualized, rudimentary, animalistic, etc. thank god those times are changing and we are starting to see that that is far from the truth.
What we had/have on TV, outside of the athletes, was a caricature of what life was like as a lower class black American. Those "attitudes" and perceptions are embedded in our popular culture. Go back and view a minstrel show or a comedy from the 1800s; many of the stereotypes about blsck people then are still in our popular culture.
For those that don't encounter blacks too often, this may become their world view of what they are. That's why shows like the Cosby's did wonders for black people, ESPEICALLY the growing middle class. It showed us in another light, one foreign to not only white people, but even some lower class blacks. The middle class people weren't acting "white", they were succeeding and trying to use opportunities to better themselves. If you're in the hood, and this is also foreign to you, then is could be deemed as acting white, because these folks are doing what they've seen white folks do on TV for years.
now the majority is also akin to what the perception of"black"
Is via mass media. So when Some of them encounter people that are outliers to their own world view, they have to do their own reassessments. For every Carlton, there were 25 Tyrones. carltons and outlier, so they may continue to view "black" through "Tyrone" and all of the negative stereotypes he illustrates, and Carlton will be "not really black"

"he never draws attention to himself"

he must be a swell guy! oops

quote:I've grown up around black people, overwhelmingly I worked with black people more than anyone else and what I see on TV is harmless (except for the news) what I've seen and heard in real life matches up quite well with the statistics and the common perception of black people
what we perceive to be "black" is what we see on TV
I had an employee a few months ago say that even though o.j. was guilty she's glad he got away with it and then went on to give the racial reasons as to why. She didn't think any of this was abnormal to say to me, etc. (and I don't give a shite)
I've come to understand quite well though, black people care more about being black than anyone else...the rest of us don't give a shite, but we're not going to not notice out of fear of being branded "racist" it is what it is...
and I think if you heard me speak quite frankly on the matter and about white people in the south during the "good old" plantation days and what an entire crock of shite that image is, you'd find it to be genuine...some times you can group things by irrelevant things, but in the late 20th and early 21st century, it's because those people group themselves by those things
again, what about Russell isn't black enough? Why would that be necessarily bad? I'm fascinated by the stupidity of it all, but that's how I see it.

Seems like there's two possibilities here, and neither one adds up to me:
(1) Russell Wilson is a jerk - if this is it, then so what? I kind of like Jay Cutler, but I bet he's a huge douchebag. It doesn't seem to be an issue in Chicago. I know they had a locker-room situation last Sunday, but that revolved around losing 3 home games in a row. Also, I know a lot of people who say that Peyton Manning is nothing like his public image, but that doesn't seem to have caused him any problems.
(2) Russell Wilson isn't black enough - We will see how this plays out, but my gut tells me this is the real issue. He's well-spoken, hangs out with white guys (oh, the humanity), doesn't have a police record, etc.
If the "problem" really is that he isn't "black enough," that's pretty pathetic. If blacks aren't a monolithic group, and I don't think they are, shouldn't Russell Wilson be free to be himself?

if someone said "he isn't black enough" or "really black" then you can bet your arse that's the issue...it's not a failure to articulate...otherwise you'd just call him an a-hole.

Okay, let's say he isn't "black enough"... what does that have to do with playing football?
Posted on 10/22/14 at 3:56 pm to DelU249
The fact that many black people don't like him because he is well spoken and well behaved shows how fricked their priorities are.
Posted on 10/22/14 at 3:59 pm to KCT
you know I lost some gay friends because it just was always about them being gay...they started to get wrapped up in it...I'm not anti-gay anything, but if I didn't agree with them about something stupid say...trayvon martin, or whether Hillary will be president, and shite even dumber than that...it all tied back into how they were gay
self banding or grouping can be harmful because you lose your sense of individuality, and people who don't think and speak genuinely for themselves or act in their interests and that of their family...they fricking suck and worse...they're boring to be around

That's kind of the whole point of why using the racial accusation is ignorant. Those traits shouldn't be viewed as inherently white. All I see there is an attempt to excuse the ignorance. I'm assuming this is something a black man is saying about another black man. Saying that someone isn't black enough shouldn't be acceptable even if you do mean something else by it.

even if it's because he's a fricking psychopath, how does it come back to how black he is
are black people incapable of being assholes, is it a more white/Asian/Hispanic trait? It's so fricking stupid.
