The drop off in quality after the top 6 is staggering. There might not be one single guy that's above replacement level. There is no bench guy that deserves more than 15 minutes a night. And I'm not sure how many deserve even that much. For as much shite as people give the Blazers for having a terrible bench, the Pels are just as poor.

If Monty doesn't keep at least 2 of his top 6 on the court at all times, things will get pear shaped in a hurry most nights. You can plug some of the perimeter guys in as complements and get away with it. But if Evans starts, rolling all bench like Monty has done will be a disaster.

The Blazers actually don't have an atrocious bench, with Steve Blake, Chris Kaman, and Dorrell Wright. Now the Rockets are another story. They have a bench that is just as bad as the Pels. It definitely get hairy after the sixth man for the Pels.

I'm not quite as pessimistic about the bench as some of you are. It's not as deep as some, no doubt, but I think it's serviceable enough for now, all things considered.

I actually was pleasantly surprised with what Ajinca can bring. He's hardly what I'd call a "stiff". He can give some minutes in spite of foul issues.

I was skeptical about the Jimmer signing, but I've been more impressed than I expected. If he can come in and hit shots without being a complete swinging door on defense, he'll serve his purpose.

Honestly, I can't think of many teams that really can go beyond 8 or 9 deep with consistent success.
