Anything behind the UK 45 yd. line (which is where this ball ended up) would be considered "good". It's unrealistic to assume that UK would not have returned a regular kickoff to at least the 40 yd. line, AND the potential for an even longer return would've been in play. From an "odds" perspective, I thought the squib kick was a safer bet against a bigger return - it just happened to end up better than even planned.

I'm not about to read all of this, but I agree. I do think the original kick (meaning before all the bounces) was too short, and if the bounces were more unfriendly, that could have been problematic. It was a good call in the abstract though.

If your argument makes sense then we should squib EVERY kick off.
