Considering they only need 16,500 signatures verified I think what they turned in is more than enough to get on the ballot.

They have to be valid signatures from eligible voters who live in the right place. Tigahs and I tried to get something on the ballot like 10 years ago and the advice we got was you need 25% more than the requirement to assure you'll have enough left over after ineligibles are tossed.

Personally I don't understand why Republicans aren't upset that you can sign this petition without a photo ID.

Back in August Rainey was quoted as saying they thought they needed a minimum of 20,000 signatures when they thought the magic number was 17,500, or about a 15% cushion.

Now that 16,500 seems to be the required number, a 15% cushion would equal around 18,975. They turned in approximately 18,200. Of course if they don't have enough signatures, by law they have an additional 60 days to make up the difference.

Doing the math since their last announced # of signatures in August, they have been averaging about 75 signatures/week recently.

The wildcard is now that the petition has been submitted, the SG opponents can now submit the documents they have accumulated from petition signers who have changed their mind and want their signatures removed from the petition. The Registrar of Voters refused to accept those signature withdrawal forms prior to the submission of the petition. She said until the petition was submitted she had nothing to remove signatures from. Now she does.
