You really expect Kip (or any mayor, really) to just sit back and say "Ohh, suuure. Just take all that tax money from our city."

Kip represents the entire parish. In theory, he should be looking after the best interests of the entire parish, not just Baton Rouge.

The tax revenue never belonged to the city of Baton Rouge. It belonged to East Baton Rouge Parish. It is hard to separate the two since they both share the same Mayor President and Metro Council. The recent annexations are just evidence that the members of the Metro Council place the interests of their constituents who are residents of the city of Baton Rouge ahead of their constituents who are residents of the unincorporated areas of East Baton Parish, Baker, Central and Zachary. They have increased the tax revenue per resident of Baton Rouge while cutting the tax revenue per non-resident for those living outside Baton Rouge.

How is the Metro Council going to provide the same levels of services to those living outside of Baton Rouge that they have become accustomed to for the current taxes they pay? It simply will not be possible.
