If you watch the replay, you will see one of the officials signalling to stop the clock around the 10 second mark. While I think he probably should have called penalty on UF and given us the 5 yards, at least he was trying to account for the delay in some way. The adjustment back to 10 seconds wasn't arbitrary, it was about where the clock was when he was calling for it to be stopped.

Here is a nice article in a Florida paper stating not only was the time addition appropriate but that they should have also give the Tigers 5 yards.

I was just about to post this. Muschamp is quoted by the media as saying he would contact the SEC for an explanation but didn't expect to get one, which I find to be a chickenshit thing to say since the referee explained it immediately with his microphone on.

I'm happy when officials enforce this anti-chickenshit rule. Alabama beat LSU in 1999 thanks in part to a defensive lineman lying on top of Josh Booty so long at the 2 that the final 19 seconds ran off the clock.
