It's not just that.

It's time of treatment.

Treatment of the people you are talking about began treatment very quickly after exposure. They started receiving it even before leaving Africa

The drug they gave them hasn't saved everyone even with Western treatment facilities.


Oh, and there isn't any more of it available now, so that kills the easily treatable angle as well.



There is some evidence that current HIV meds can help treat it though.
