It is difficult to predict how teams will manage the salary cap going forward, and that will have a huge impact on the competitiveness of teams. There is only so much money you can have tied up in a QB and fill the roster without some glaring weakness. It will take a lot of luck, or skill, in filling roster spots with players on their first contracts for teams to win Super Bowls with high priced QBs. It is more likely that future Super Bowl winners will be teams with good QBs in their first contracts who haven't sucked up too much cap space.

I have hard time imagining that Rodgers, Drew Brees, Tom Brady or Peyton Manning will win another Super Bowl. Their teams would need to plug weaknesses with draft choices to have a chance since doing it via free agency is pretty much impossible financially. The alternative is to tear down and rebuild, but I can't see their teams' managements having the patience to go that route given the remaining time in their respective careers.

I agree with this. If you look at the super bowl champions since 1999, only two teams had a QB making elite QB money, both of them Mannings. Peyton in 2006 and Eli in 2011. Drew was still on his first, lower salary contract in 2009, Brady did not get his big payday until after their last championship, and Rodgers was not yet making elite money in 2010. Of course, Roethlisberger still doesn't make elite money, I don't think, but he certainly did not through 2008. Wilson makes pennies compared to these guys.

The elite QB contract is a massive obstacle to overcome and requires a great deal of luck and great drafts to do it.
